The lagoon is a shallow, sheltered stretch of water forty kilometres long, protected from the Atlantic swell by a sand peninsula. You can stand up almost anywhere in it, which removes the single biggest source of fear when you are learning.

For advanced riders, the Speed Spot is one of the flattest patches of water in the world, and Oum Lamboir on the ocean side offers a long, clean right-hander for strapless wave riding.

How much do kitesurf lessons in Dakhla cost?
Sessions are two hours: €80 per person in a small group, €100 semi-private with a maximum of two students, and €140 one-to-one. Kite, board, harness, wetsuit and safety gear are included in all three.
Why is a lesson only two hours long?
Because that is how the school sells them here — a standard session on the lagoon. Most beginners stack several sessions across their stay rather than booking one long block, and the camp packages bundle 9 to 10 hours for exactly that reason.
How many sessions will I need?
Plan on five or six two-hour sessions to reach 10 to 12 hours, which is where most people become independent. If that is your goal, a camp package works out better than booking sessions one at a time.
What makes the lagoon so good for beginners?
It is flat, shallow and sheltered — you can stand up across much of the learning area, and there is no swell to fight while you are still learning to steer a kite. Being able to put your feet down when something goes wrong removes most of the fear.
Is the wind ever too strong for a lesson?
Rarely, because the kite is sized to the day. Dakhla's wind is thermal and steady rather than gusty, which is far easier to learn in than a stronger but less predictable wind. Watch for the fuller moons, when it can get punchier.
What happens if there is no wind?
Your hours move to another day of your stay — nothing is lost. With over 300 windy days a year it is an unusual problem here, but it is the reason to spread lessons across a stay rather than booking them all on one day.
Can children take lessons in Dakhla?
From roughly 10 to 12 years old, depending on the child's weight and water confidence, and always privately rather than in a group. The shallow lagoon makes it a good place for a young beginner.
Do you offer supervision for riders who can already ride?
Yes — supervision sessions start from €60 for autonomous riders who want safety cover rather than teaching. You can use our equipment or ride your own.
Can I rent gear without taking a lesson?
In Dakhla, yes. Kite, board, harness, helmet and impact vest can be rented individually or as a full kit by the day. Tell us your level and your dates and we will confirm what is available.
How far is the lagoon from town?
The kite spots sit along the lagoon south of Dakhla town, a short drive out on the peninsula. Most guests stay on the water rather than in town, which is why the camp and hotel packages exist.
What should I pack for a Dakhla kite trip?
Sun protection above everything — there is no shade on a sand peninsula. Also something genuinely warm for the evenings, which are cooler than people expect, and a spare pair of sunglasses.
Is Dakhla worth it for a short trip?
Only if you have at least five or six days, because you lose the best part of two of them travelling. There are no direct flights from Europe. For a long weekend, Essaouira is the better call.
