About the Camp

Your First
Surf Week

Two coached sessions a day on the most forgiving waves in the region, with the whole camp eating dinner together on the terrace afterwards. This is the package we recommend to anyone who has never surfed before.

The village is genuinely Berber — bread from the oven at the corner, argan cooperatives up the valley, and a Sunday souk in Aourir that is worth skipping an afternoon session for.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the Tamraght surf camp?
Accommodation, certified coaching, board and wetsuit throughout, breakfast and dinner, airport transfer and video analysis. It starts at €290 per person, the lowest camp price we run.
Are dinners really included here?
Yes — the Tamraght camp includes breakfast and dinner, which is more than our Essaouira camps offer. Home-cooked tagines eaten with the group are a large part of why people remember this one.
Where do I stay?
Either a shared surf house or a private room in a village guesthouse. Both are a short walk from the beach, and the village is small enough that nothing is far from anything.
Is this the right camp for a first-ever surf trip?
It is the one we recommend most often for that. Sandy beach breaks, quiet beaches, a calm village and a group of people at the same stage as you. There is nothing intimidating about the water here.
How long should I book?
Camps run five, seven, ten or fourteen days. Seven days gives a complete beginner enough consecutive sessions to be catching unbroken waves by the end, which five sometimes does not.
How far is it from Taghazout?
About five kilometres, fifteen minutes by road. Guests regularly go up for an evening or to watch the points on a big swell, then come back to somewhere quieter to sleep.
What happens on a flat day?
We drive — the coast either side of Tamraght picks up different swell. Failing that, it becomes a theory and video session, a trip to Paradise Valley, or a day in Agadir.
Can children join the camp?
From about age 8 in the water, with private or semi-private coaching recommended under 12. The wide sandy beach and shallow water make Tamraght the most family-friendly of our locations.
Is there wifi at the camp?
Yes, and it is fine for messages, email and browsing. It is not a connection to build a working week around — if you need reliable video calls, tell us before booking.
How many people are in the camp at once?
Small enough that everyone eats together. Coaching groups are capped at four students per instructor regardless of how full the house is.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, sunscreen, a towel, flip-flops and something warm for the evenings — the coast cools down after dark. Boards, wetsuits and leashes are all provided.
Can I extend my stay if I want more?
Usually yes, subject to availability, charged per extra night. It happens often enough that it is worth asking about before your trip rather than during it.
