Tamraght sits in the river valley between Taghazout and Aourir, with Banana Point at one end of the beach and Devil's Rock at the other. The bottom is sand, the waves are forgiving and the line-up is a fraction as busy as its famous neighbour.

It is the spot we send almost every first-timer to — and the spot experienced surfers quietly come back to when Anchor Point is packed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do surf lessons in Tamraght cost?
From €18 per person for a two-hour group session — the lowest starting price of any of our locations. Semi-private and private coaching cost more per hour and buy you considerably more water time.
Why is Tamraght a good place to learn?
Sand. The waves here break over sandbanks rather than rock, so a fall is a soft one, and the peaks shift along the beach instead of concentrating everyone in one spot. It is the friendliest water we teach on.
Which beaches do you use?
Banana Beach and the stretch around Devil's Rock are the usual choices, picked on the day for tide and swell size. Both are wide sandy beaches with room for a group to spread out.
Is Tamraght too easy if I already surf?
Not at all — the beach breaks have plenty of shape on a decent swell, and the point breaks around Taghazout are fifteen minutes up the road when you want them. Plenty of intermediates base themselves here precisely because it is quieter.
Can my children learn here?
From about age 8, provided they are comfortable in water. Under 12 we recommend private or semi-private rather than a group: younger surfers tire faster and progress much better with a coach watching only them.
How many hours should I book?
Six to ten hours across consecutive days is where beginners see real change. Two hours is a taster. Four gets you standing reliably in whitewater. Ten will usually have you paddling for your own waves.
What happens if the waves are too big?
We move down the beach or along the coast to something smaller, or turn the session into technique and theory. Nobody is put in surf beyond their level, and Morocco almost always has a sheltered option somewhere nearby.
Is the equipment included?
Yes — soft-top board, wetsuit and leash, in every size. You bring swimwear, a towel and sunscreen.
Are the lessons crowded in high season?
The groups are capped at four regardless of season, so the lesson itself does not change. The beach gets busier around Christmas and Easter, but nothing like the point breaks up the road.
Do you pick us up from where we are staying?
Transport to the spot of the day is part of the lesson, and Tamraght is small enough that pickup is straightforward. Tell us where you are staying when you book.
Can I book lessons without staying at a camp?
Yes. Lessons are sold by the hour and are completely independent of accommodation — plenty of people book them while staying elsewhere in the village or in Taghazout.
How soon should I book?
A few days ahead is usually enough outside the peak weeks. For Christmas, New Year and Easter, book several weeks out — those are the fortnights when instructors run out before beds do.
