About the Camp

Waves and a
UNESCO Medina

Morning sessions in the bay while it is still glassy, then the wind arrives and the afternoon is yours — the fish grill at the port, the ramparts, the woodworkers' souks, or a bus down to Sidi Kaouki for sunset.

It is the most sociable of our camps, and the easiest one to combine with a non-surfing partner: there is plenty to do here that has nothing to do with the ocean.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are the Essaouira surf camps and what do they cost?
Four days with 8 hours of coaching from €270 per person, six days with 10 hours from €330, and eight days with 12 hours from €430. The price also depends on whether you take group, semi-private or private coaching.
Why does the price change with the coaching format?
Because the accommodation is the same riad for everyone — what you are choosing is how many people share your instructor. Group is up to four students, semi-private two, private one-to-one. The riad room and breakfast do not change.
Where exactly do I sleep?
In a traditional riad about seven minutes from the beach, with daily breakfast included. It puts you inside the medina rather than out on a strip of hotels.
Are lunches and dinners included?
No, and deliberately so — Essaouira has a fish grill at the port and a medina full of places to eat, and we would rather you use them. Breakfast every morning is included; lunch, dinner, room service and personal expenses are not.
Do you collect me from Essaouira or Marrakech airport?
Neither is included in this camp, and we would rather say so than let you assume. Essaouira Mogador (ESU) is fifteen minutes from the riad and easy to arrange on arrival; from Marrakech it is a two-and-a-half hour road transfer that we can book for you at cost. Ask us when you confirm your dates.
Which months suit this camp best?
September to April, when the Atlantic swell is most consistent and the mornings are cleanest. Summer camps still run but the wind takes the afternoons, so the surfing is a morning activity.
How many hours a day will I be in the water?
Around two hours of coached time a day — 8 hours over four days, 10 over six, 12 over eight. That is deliberate: beginners improve more with a rest between sessions than with a longer one.
What is there to do when I am not surfing?
A UNESCO medina, a working fishing harbour, woodworkers' souks, ramparts and a long arts tradition. It is the reason this camp suits a mixed group where not everyone surfs.
Are session photos included?
Yes, free photos of your sessions are part of the camp. Ask at the start of a session so your coach can plan for it.
Can I combine this with the kitesurf camp?
In May or September, yes — those are the two months where morning swell and afternoon wind genuinely overlap. Message us and we will build a split programme across your stay.
What board will I use?
Soft-tops for beginners and harder boards as you progress, all provided along with wetsuits for the whole camp. Essaouira water sits around 16 to 20 °C, so expect a full suit for most of the year.
Is four days really enough?
For a first taste, yes — 8 hours across four consecutive days will have most people riding whitewater confidently. To reach unbroken waves reliably, six or eight days is the honest answer.
